St Barnabas Hospice Bereavement Service

We understand that after the death of a loved one, your thoughts and feelings can be overwhelming and difficult to understand or to put into words.  When someone close dies, it can leave you feeling alone and experiencing complex, unexpected feelings.  Our team of trained and experienced volunteers are here to offer you the help you may need at this time.

At present we are unable to offer face-to-face support, however support is available within our online bereavement groups, on our bereavement helpline or through one-to-one support with a member of the Wellbeing team.

Help during your bereavement

Our service:

  • Will help with any bereavement, not just the families and friends of those cared for by the Hospice.
  • Is friendly, independent and provides you with the opportunity to find support with others who have experienced a bereavement.
  • Takes referrals from everyone. You can ask for help yourself, your family or friends may ask us to support you, or you might be referred to our service by a GP/health and social care professional.
  • Is provided free of charge.

Depending on your individual needs, we provide:

Online bereavement groups

The groups offer you a space to express your grief in a safe and supported environment with others that have also experienced a bereavement. There is a maximum of six people within the group plus two St Barnabas facilitators who are there to offer support.

Bereavement helpline

St Barnabas have opened a bereavement helpline for the people of Lincolnshire in response to the coronavirus pandemic. This helpline offers support for those experiencing grief from all bereavement not just the coronavirus. The helpline is open Monday to Friday, 11am to 3pm.

Call: 0300 303 1897

On accessing the bereavement helpline, if it is identified that you would benefit from ongoing one to one support, a referral can be made for you to access either telephone or webcam sessions with one of our trained supportive listening or counselling bereavement volunteers.

Supportive listening

A Supportive Listener could help you (in a one-to-one situation) to explore your feelings. There is a waiting list for this service.

One-to-one counselling

This is offered for people with more complex needs and there is a waiting list for this service.
